Central Houston has as a priority the ongoing coordination of public and private police and security operations in downtown.  Monthly analysis of crime patterns, emergency response planning, and other special projects has contributed to a drop in the crime rate within downtown. 

Central Houston continues to assist with special funding for the Houston Police Mounted Patrol Unit which it helped create in 1985, as well as other special projects such as the establishment of the Downtown Public Safety Center in 1991.
