Job Description Central Houston, Inc. seeks a resourceful and creative Research Assistant Intern to assist with various research, planning and design projects. The Research Assistant will report to the Planning and Urban Design Coordinator and the Business Development Coordinator and may interact with additional members of the Central Houston and Downtown District teams and associated consultants on a range of research activities and will be expected to work both independently and in a team environment.
Work Performed This position will undertake multi-disciplinary research in a number of projects including architecture, economic development, sustainability, transportation and urban design. This position must exercise initiative, tact and judgment and respect confidentiality of information. Specifically candidates will be expected to perform the following: general research and information gathering, data entry, drafting of reports and presentations, liaise with various stakeholders and consultants, assist with research projects, presentations, grants and proposals, and perform general administrative duties.
Skill and Qualification Requirements The successful candidate will be an undergraduate student who has completed a minimum of two semesters at the Rice School of Architecture. Excellent research skills Strong communication skills (written, oral and listening) Capacity and will to learn new software and research methods Must be able to work independently and multi-task Must display an attention to detail Highly motivated, flexible and perform well under tight deadlines Must have strong organizational and time management skills
Logistics This is a part-time position of 24 to 29 hours per week and will last for a maximum of 14 weeks, beginning on or after May 10, 2010. Schedule is flexible dependent on school schedule. Salary is $12 per hour plus $115 monthly transportation allowance. This part-time position is not entitled to any group insurance or retirement savings plan benefits.
